Here. We. Go

Today marks the first day of spring and my first training run since officially taking the leap. I’ve signed up for my first ultramarathon, the Eastern Divide 50k. It may not seem significant, but for me, taking that step and actually registering for the race moves me from, “I am thinking about doing an ultra” into “I AM DOING an ultra.”

Today’s run – an easy 2-loop trip on the crushed stone path around Burke Lake (9mi total). I left my Garmin in the car and decided to run this one just based on feel. It was actually nice to not be obsessing about pace or distance the entire time. It gave me a chance to reflect instead on “what the %$#! am I doing running this ultra???” In actuality, I’m up to the challenge, and excited for the new experience….even though it scares the beejeebees out of me!!

I’ve completed a handful of marathons, so it’s only 5 more miles…right? Right??? Yes, keep telling yourself that…just 5 more miles…
